EUMUNDI artist Sam McKenzie is the man behind the can - the artwork for the just-launched cans of Eumundi Brewery Lager, that is.
Sam grew up in Eumundi, earned his childhood pocket money drawing at Eumundi Markets, and has gone on to develop a reputation as a freelance artist.
But perhaps the biggest coup of his career so far has been the can art designs for the lager brewed at the Eumundi Brewery at The Imperial Hotel Eumundi.
"It feels pretty right,” Sam said.
"I'm Brisbane-based these days, so to receive a brief to design the artwork for the iconic beer that bears the name of my family home town was a dream assignment.
"I set out to create a can label that reflected the personality of Eumundi and the Eumundi Brewery, and that of course honoured the trees that are synonymous with the town.”
The cans featuring Sam's artwork rolled off the canning line just over a week ago, with an initial production of just 200 cases.
The first batch of cans is available from the Imperial Hotel's Liquor Legends bottle shop in Eumundi, as well as the two Liquor Legends bottle shops in Cooroy.
Future batches will be available at more bottle shops across the region.
Head brewer Chris Sheehan says the new cans are available in six-packs or cases.
"If you're keen to grab some of these first batch cans, I'd recommend getting in quick - as they are rolling out the door,” he said.
"Once these disappear, we'll take a mini-break from canning over the silly season as we concentrate on brewing and filling kegs for the ever-growing numbers of venues on the Coast now serving our brews.”
The Eumundi Brewery officially opened on-site at The Imperial Hotel Eumundi in September this year, launching with flagship beers Eumundi Brewery Lager and Eumundi Brewery Pale Ale.
November saw the launch of Brewery Tasting Tours - on Wednesdays and Saturdays and by appointment.
