Gervais: ‘I’m drunk every day’

RICKY Gervais says he's been "drunk every day since he was 18".

The 56-year-old admitted his boozing has led to some embarrassing moments however, with him once wetting the bed, reports The Sun.

Gervais told The Daily Star On Sunday: "I was sober for 18 years - the first 18 years of my life.

"And I have been drunk every day since. There has not been a day when I haven't had a drink.

"My dad liked a drink and I thought, 'No, I will not have a drink'.

And then the first f***ing drink I had I was like, 'f***ing hell, I know why he was drunk all the time'. It makes you feel f***ing brilliant."

Gervais even admitted he'd "wet the bed" during the interview but vowed he would "not stop drinking".

The comedian also said he liked to have some Dutch courage before award shows - including the Golden Globes in 2016.

Gervais, who shot to global fame via The Office, is currently working on a new sitcom called Attached which tells the tale of a broken man who's been dumped by his wife.

He told The Sun: "I had five projects which I have narrowed down to one sitcom.

"I have written five pages. I shouldn't say but the idea is I get separated from my wife and I have to move in with an absolute loser relative.

"I have lost everything. I haven't got a house, I haven't got a job because she kept me and I was a bit of a kept man, and now I have to start dating again. It's horrendous.

"At 55, I've got to start from scratch, and all I want is her back.

"So it's about me trying to cope without this lifelong partner and how the real world is harsh. It is going to be harsh."
